Affinity Closure Must Be Avoided

Massillon, Ohio – In response to Monday’s announcement by Rep. Bob Gibbs that he finds the closure of Affinity Medical Center “concerning,” Ken Harbaugh, candidate for Congress in Ohio’s 7th District, released the following statement:

“Bob Gibbs has voted again and again to gut access to health care. He has voted to increase insurance premiums for Ohio families -- all in the midst of a devastating opioid epidemic. He has sided against the counsel of every major nurse and doctor group in Ohio, and he consistently votes against working Ohioans trying to make ends meet. Now, as Affinity Medical Center in Massillon announces it is closing, with the potential loss of 800 healthcare jobs, Bob Gibbs chooses to express his “concern.” This is too little, too late, Bob Gibbs. You cannot have it both ways. After years of working against the interests of healthcare workers and their patients across the Ohio 7th, this concern rings hollow. Hold a real Town Hall, Bob Gibbs. If you are truly concerned about Ohio, show us.”
